After six years, Jera returns to the place where his love for cacao and the Spirit of Cacao project first began, Guatemala.
On January 28, 2026, he will depart together with his close friend Jasper (IG @thatweirdplantguy) to visit the cacao farms together in Guatemala and Costa Rica. The places where two of our new cacao varieties originate and are already available in our shop. After a beautiful online connection, we of course wish to visit, meet, and experience these special places and the people behind them in real life. This dream is coming true!
In Guatemala, we will spend several days staying on the plantations. Working together on the farm, learning more about the production process, how the land is cared for and how they give back to the Earth, and having the honor of getting to know the tribe more deeply. We also hope to take part in a cacao ceremony, to experience this cacao even more profoundly at her place of origin, allowing us to truly feel and embody the Mayan Spirit in this sacred land.

In Costa Rica, we will also visit the cacao farm, as well as the small factory where the cacao beans are traditionally processed. We will also stop by the Pacha Mama Eco community, where our friend and local contact Uri lives.
We will document and capture our journey and share it on our social media and blog. Not following us yet? Follow @spiritofcacao.nl if you're curious for our experiences and to stay up to date.
A unique journey into the heart of nature where earth wisdom, Cacao, and ancient rituals converge.
Not only is Jera traveling to Guatemala, but Nick is also heading to the beautiful land of the Maya. While Jera will mainly be in the northern regions, Nick will spend the end of February further south, around Lake Atitlán and Semuc Champey. Another dream coming true!
Here, he will begin a pilgrimage through the sacred lands of Guatemala. To deepen his connection with the earth, awaken his inner guidance more profoundly, and commune with spirit, anchored in the ancient wisdom of the land and its biocultural heritage. It will be an immersion, a remembrance, with cacao playing an important role along the way.
This journey will lead him to two sacred sites, where the landscape itself is a living entity, holding the stories, rituals, and wisdom of our ancestors. Nick will connect with the wisdom of the spirit of the land and learn from the elemental forces of nature, intertwined with the rich culture and history of the Maya. From the place they call "the Navel of the Earth" to a hidden gem tucked deep within the Guatemalan jungle.
He will also plant new seeds for Spirit of Cacao and expand our network. In short, the same land, but two different journeys. Each following their own path, which is bringing what we need both personally and for Spirit of Cacao. This year, we will also begin something truly beautiful for our tribe, our community and of course, you are part of it.
